Stone Gyuto

The second in our Signature Collection series based on the C.S. Lewis novels The Chronicles of Narnia:

A handmade culinary Gyuto influenced by The Stone Dagger, wielded by the White Witch to kill Aslan the lion in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

This japense-style beef knife is meticulously crafted from a combination of heavily textured Ni200 nickel and structural iron forged over a 400 layer high carbon damascus steel core for exceptional beauty and durability. Hollow ground with a small “false edge" at the tip of the spine to emphasize its mystical dagger influence. The hidden tang is enbedded in a carved African Blackwood handle inlayed with low contrasting jet-black branches, adorned with a scalloped nickel-damascus bolster and small, hand hammered 999 silver guard. A clear quartz crystal representing the ice of the original dagger has been set in the very back of handle. Accompanied by a crucifix oyster shucker crafted from matching steel and set in the front an included hand stiched black leather slip cover.

The Inspiration:

The Chronicles of Narnia are written as beautiful allegory for the Christian Faith of which I grew up within but had been long distant, representing through a mystical world of talking animals the Creation of Life, The Fall of Man, The Sacrifice of Christ and the call-to-arms of a Christian Life. I read them for the first time over 2024 along with my 9 year old son as one of our first shared "big kid" book series together. I was not a religious man, but found the story very moving and the connection with my son over such large themes, presented so poetically, to be an incredibly postive experience.

This knife specifically is based on the Stone Dagger used by the White Witch to slay Aslan the Lion as he willingly gave up his life to protect the children of Narnia, representing the crucifixion of Christ.

Over the 2025 New Years and into January I came down with covid, which quickly became pnuemonia and then sepsis with circulatory distress. I believe it presented a credible threat to my life. While laying in bed, the sickist I've ever been, I could hear my children playing and found refuge in prayer, that there’s a design that put me here today for a reason and that I'd be able to play with them again soon.

In the time since we’ve dived into prayer and scripture, immersing in spirituality and church history. While still in bed our family watched the early 2000's Narnia movies which cemented the idea of our new found faith being represented by this magical world. I am now trying to translate that idea into steel.

I hope you enjoy seeing this work as much I do making, and being able to make it. I feel blessed everyday I get to do what I love. More to come as it unfolds. Thank you for your support.
